Since 1982
Stiftelsen PAUSE
PAUSE was founded on the belief that international study and experience can transform a career while bringing home knowledge that Sweden's workplaces need.
The initiative
Torsten Lundberg and Arne Baldhagen recognised a need
The idea for the scholarship fund was conceived in 1982 by Torsten Lundberg, then Group Personnel Director at Tetra Pak. He developed the initiative together with Arne Baldhagen, formerly International Personnel Manager at Alfa Laval.
Their starting point was practical: people working in HR need experience of different educational and professional settings, cultures and ways of organising work. That knowledge should then be brought home through reports, discussion and practical application.
PAUSE stands for Personnel Management Abroad by University Studies and Experience. The name expresses both the method and the ambition: to step away from the familiar and see one's profession with fresh eyes.
Go abroad and learn. Come home and put that knowledge to work.

PAUSE today
The idea lives on
Since the Foundation was established, 48 scholarships have been awarded. Many recipients have gone on to senior positions in business, non-profit organisations and public administration; others have founded companies or built careers as specialists in HR and leadership.
The purpose is both to develop each scholar as a professional and leader and to make new knowledge about HR, leadership and the world of work accessible to a wider audience.
